California Assembly Bill No. 1200 (AB1200)
About California AB 1200
AB 1200 requires manufacturers of listed cookware to make certain disclosures about their products based on whether certain chemicals are intentionally added to the products’ food contact components and handles.
What are the requirements of California AB 1200?
The cookware disclosure requirement of California AB 1200 is found in the California Health & Safety Code beginning in Section 109010. As of January 1, 2024, manufacturers of cookware sold in the state containing one or more intentionally added chemicals from a designated list of chemicals are required to identify those chemicals on the product label. This law also requires, beginning January 1, 2023, cookware manufacturers to identify such chemicals on its website.
“Cookware” means items used to prepare, dispense, or store food, foodstuffs, or beverages: pot, pans, skillets, grills, baking sheets, baking molds, trays, bowls and cooking utensils.
“Intentionally added” means that the manufacturer has intentionally added the chemical to the product and the chemical has a functional or technical effect in the product.
The tables in this web page identify the cookware for which the website disclosure is required.
Food Safety of our Products
The products identified here comply with relevant limits and rules established by the federal Food and Drug Administration. The Californian Bill AB 1200 «Chemicals of concern in Food Packaging & Cookware» regulates information and reporting duties for PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) and for several other hazardous substances of the Californian Designated list [https://calsafer.dtsc.ca.gov/cms/search/?type=Chemical].
To the best of our knowledge, our non-stick coatings with direct food contact do not contain any intentionally added substances on the designated list of the Cal Safer List scope of the Californian AB 1200, including Fluoropolymers or other PFAS (acc. to OECD Definition, 9 July 2021), but we have chosen to disclose the listed chemicals that may be present in the substrate layers beneath the food-contact surface, as well those listed chemicals that may be present in our handles. The presence of these chemicals does not mean that our cookware, bakeware, or appliances will pose a health risk with normal use.
